We need to speak out against the latest attempt to muzzle free speech. While Representative Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) has good intentions, his proposal would spell the end of freedom.

Before we heap hot coals upon Rep. McGovern, however, we need to take responsibility for the reason the proposal is being proposed. In "Individualism and the Death of Freedom," Jim Tonkowich explains why.

If you missed Chuck's memorial service, you can still see it here, at least for now. (I'm not certain how long it will be available online.) Also, you can read WORLD magazine's writeup here.

The Obama website has a page about "The Life of Julia," supposedly a representative American woman. Over at Her.meneutics, I have a piece about why Julia is a remarkably poor representative for many of us.

When writing, I try to keep exclamation points to a minimum, however, for this blog I might use more than one. You will forgive me the excitement when you find out that we've just celebrated Gina's 10th anniversary with the ministry. Read More >

I heard about the new TIME magazine cover on my way to work this morning. It's a startling picture, really: A three-year-old boy is standing on a chair suckling at his mother's breast. Read More >

What with the North Carolina vote and the Obama statement, it's been a big week for same-sex marriage.

I don't know if you've experienced this, but from my perspective, it seems like every major battle in the ongoing SSM war finds more Christians switching sides. I was surprised to see some of my friends on Facebook -- sincere Christians all -- declare that for whatever reason (benefits for children, fairness toward all, etc.), they were supporting SSM.

Have you seen something similar among your friends? Short of letting your life turn into this, how have you handled it?

This week in Virginia, a judge is considering the legality of posting of the Ten Commandments in a public school. The Roanoke Times reports that Judge Michael Urbanski has indicated that he will order the case into mediation between the ACLU and the local school board because of the financial cost to the school district.

Tyrants that they are, the Food Police have made inroads into banning sugary goodness from the school yards. This time, the PTA isn't allowed to conduct a bake sale to raise money for a variety of needs.

Parents, beware: Delighting in their power, these FPs will be coming to a school near you.

Prescription for obese children: Turn off the cell phones, computers, and televisions, and go outside and play. All the exercise will help burn off those nasty extra calories, build strong bones, and so forth.

Having caved and hit a late night showing with my wife and some old comic book afficionado friends this weekend, I have to agree with most of Zahn's assessment of Marvel's "The Avengers." I'm not particularly a fan of the genre, but as far as superhero flicks go, especially in the worldview department, this one deserves some praise.

I'm sorry to say I can identify all too well with this post about being mean. That why I'm glad Kellie "Red" Miller wrote it. It offers a lot of useful tips to remember and implement when our mean side starts getting the better of us.

No doubt Steyn will shortly point out -- and I can hardly wait -- that it is completely ridiculous for a non-Muslim 9/11 defense attorney to (1) wear a hijab in court, and (2) ask the other women in court to dress more modestly out of respect for the religious scruples of the terror suspects. For now, I'll just point it out myself.

When touring an exhibit at the New York Public Library, “Shelley’s Ghost: The Afterlife of a Poet” (contains occasional profanity), English professor Paula Marantz Cohen couldn't help but be reminded that Percy Shelley, the famous Romantic-era poet, was an odious scoundrel (as were his friends). With all the negativity being thrown at Christianity today, you might be tempted to say that Americans think it isn’t.

It seems that a sermon by North Carolina pastor Sean Harris, in which he advocates giving "a good punch" to little boys who act "a little girlish," is going viral. Note the T-shirt Harris is wearing in the photo at this link: It says "No Greater Joy." That's Michael and Debi Pearl's organization.

Yes, that Michael and Debi Pearl.

Does anyone still doubt that the Pearls' teachings are dangerous? You don't have to be a fan of dressing up little boys in girls' clothes to recognize that hitting them is hardly an appropriate, effective, or loving way to handle the issue. But when the Pearls teach that hitting is a training method, rather than a last-resort, carefully carried out punishment, this is what you get: hitting for innocent behavior by a child too young to even know what's going on.
