A running list of news posts and announcements, posted by the Colson Center for Christian Worldview. News on some of the major issues we look at every week, with a brief commentary and perhaps a few links to what some of our writers or speakers are saying about these issues.

PF CEO Liske's Commentaries Draw Large Audiences

Last two BreakPoint Commentaries triple normal Web views

Both times Jim Liske (CEO of Prison Fellowship, Justice Fellowship and BreakPoint / Colson Center) has done the daily BreakPoint Commentary, the web traffic to BreakPoint.org has reached 12,000 visitors a day. That is about triple the normal traffic for that site. The two commentaries were: Jesus Forgives, Do We?:  Ex-Offenders and Employment (February 7) and Where the Church Belongs: Worldview Hits the Streets (February 21). It is safe to say that the mixing of social issues with Christian worldview gets attention.

When analyzing the traffic, though, even more comes into view. Of the 12,000 visitors on
February 7, over 7000 of them came from Twitter alone. Something about that subject went viral or was posted by a very large media organization. On February 21, it gets even more interesting. Close to 8000 visits came from a single link on Fark.com, a fairly cynical and reactive web site. The thing that got the attention of the poster of the link, and of the people who followed it, seems to be the incredible story of a mega-church pastor who cared enough to live under a bridge with the homeless for a week. If you go to the site and find the link (we did a screenshot below) you can click on the comments link to the right and see over 128 comments on the story Jim told. Most are negative and many very cynical, given the prejudice against Christianity, organized religion, etc. by many of the commenters. But some seem to be glad and do a good job of defending a true Christian showing of compassion in a world that needs it. In any case, this kind of issue gets a reaction from all sides.
