Ask the Right Questions
This week, Chuck Colson offers a personal account of a conversation he had with a doctor who had not clearly thought through the logical conclusions of her worldview. After asking the right questions, and leading this doctor toward the inevitable end of her beliefs, Mr. Colson realized that sometimes the best way to teach the Christian faith isn't by teaching at all.

  1. One resource that has received interest is the Gospel of John Quiz at EarsToHear.net. 27 questions: Read each question while reading through the Gospel of John, looking for an answer. Once you have an answer, read the next question. (http://earstohear.net/Kingdom/quiz_john.html)
  2. Question on Darwinian theory. If all things evolve likely due to their surroundings, which was the first to be, the male or the female, if it is said that the first creature was self reproductive with both male and female parts then why would it be a great step forward to separate into male and female considering it would further complicate the matter of reproduction, furthermore, wouldn't it be a step back in evolution rather than a step forward, ie to evolve from a self-fertilizing organism to one requiring two separate indivdual one. Wouldn't a modern day scientist find a design of self-fertilization a more evolved creature?
  3. I truely appreciate all that you are doing Mr Colson. I listen to you every day on WIHS 104.9. My comment and question about todays 2 minute warning is this. You did not address the problem of limited resources. Health care is not free. Someone has to pay for it. What do you say if the money is just not there? Then what? I understand the problem of who decides who lives and who dies. I am not going there. But really what do you say to the patient who needs hundreds of thousands of dollars of care that cannot be paid for? Isn't that what has brought us to where we are today?
  4. Here is my question Mr. Colson. In all fairness. Why did God give humans FREE WILL and for what reason should we HAVE FREE WILL. Is it a matter of survival?? Please answer the WHOLE question. Oh. Bye the way. I'm on your side.
  5. Another excellent book on this topic of asking questions that lead not-yet-Christians to self-discover the contradictions within their belief systems is "God Space" by Doug Pollock, who is on staff with Athletes in Action (Campus Crusade for Christ). Jim Furr
  6. If only more people would adopt this approach! I recently engaged a highly intellectual friend in a similar conversation. His response after a lengthy exchange was, "A lot more people would listen to you Christians, if you would just talk like this, instead of preaching at us." For people who think philosophically, I like to add a little twist by asking, "Do you mind if I play Socrates for a few minutes?". Thanks for this excellent challenge!
