The Wilberforce Weekend Conference: a Commissioning, a Reminder, a Returning

“we must not deceive ourselves: the eyes of men are upon us”, Jacques Ellul

The Wilberforce Weekend Conference was held on January 15-17, 2010 at the National Conference Center in Lansdowne, Virginia. This weekend highlights the compilation of a year’s worth of intensive Biblical Worldview training for BreakPoint Centurions, their commissioning and the opportunity to become acquainted with an individual who has exemplified the character of William Wilberforce through the award named in his honor.

The Centurion commissioning ceremony is not only recognition of completion but also a sending out to emulate through ministry, the example set forth by our Lord, Jesus Christ; to speak into the culture with authority but in a loving and winsome way. The Conference also provides the opportunity for returning and renewing. Previously commissioned Centurions return to renew friendships and form new relationships with those attending. They also return to be renewed in mind and spirit and to again review their personal mission fields. In so doing, each of us through our commission as a Centurion, emulate the one that Jesus was most amazed with his demonstration of faith (Matthew 8: 5-13). It is a reminder of what and how our mission for the Lord is to be lived out. As Ellul reminds us in the quote above, all eyes are on us for what we profess and to observe if we live it out.

If you were unable to attend the Wilberforce Weekend, but want a flavor of the conference, the Wilberforce Forum will be broadcasting conversations that were recorded during the event. You will have the opportunity to hear Chuck Colson speak about the Centurions program and how the Wilberforce Award winner Ambassador Tony Hall, fulfills not only the character, but also the deeds of Wilberforce in our time. You will have the occasion to listen as commissioned Centurions speak about their ministries and soon to be commissioned Centurions reflect on their year of training and its challenges. Additionally challenges will be brought forward from Glenn Sunshine, Mark Earley, Steve Bradford and Alan Terwilleger. At a later date, we will broadcast the Sunday morning worship service and a wonderful message from T.M. Moore on the two Jerusalems in Solomon’s day and the meaning for us today.

Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with other Centurions. Join the Wilberforce Forum on the Worldview Network (ColsonCenter.org) this Monday evening February 1, 2010 at 8 PM Eastern Standard Time.
