Although most often undefined in general discourse, three varieties of secularism exist. Supersessionist secularism promotes itself as the alternative to any religion, liberal secularism seeks neutrality among a plurality of religions, and eschatological secularism remains religious but recognizes that any current state or society is merely temporal.
