The Political Illusion: The Limits of Government (Government Series II, No. 5)

People have an entitlement mentality, which keeps Congress from passing a constitutional amendment to balance the budget. The government's specific task is to promote justice and restrain evil. The idea that government can do more to provide us with a richer and fuller life is a modern form of idolatry, treating the state as a god. There is only one way to make a life rich and full, not by turning to the government, but by turning to God.
