For 1600 years, Christianity has operated under the just-war doctrine. Credited to Augustine, the theory emphasizes that war should be only an option when a nation is provoked or attacked. Conflicts like the war in Iraq demonstrate how some regimes must be stopped before further violence is inflicted.
